In Malaysia there are 2 building collapsed ;
- Taman Hill View-20 November 2002-8 people killed
- Highland Tower-11 December 1993-48 people killed
In this topic, only HIGHLAND TOWER tragedy was discussed:
- 1.35 pm on December 11.1993
- 3 nos of 12 storey residential were effected
- 1 collapsed,2 declare unsafe until now
- retaining wall and drainage poorly design and maintained
- on the top began construction, start erosion
- mud clogged the discharge pipe
- start water clogging and seepage
- diversion stream to the discharge pipe are in the building
- pipe burst and 100,000 m3 mud start produce line of failure
- 10 days non stop rain
- cracking start appeared at road and surrounding area
- retaining wall burst and mud start hit the foundation of building
- block 1 collapse
- 48 people killed
what are the lesson can get from this disaster:
- no periodically inspection of the building
- completed in 1971,tragedy 1993,that mean 23 years without building inspection that is my prediction
Please refer to the AKTA 133.
- my opinion the duration 10 years must change to 5 year for urban area or critical area like near slope and river to prevent this type of tragedy
- the goverment must stringently enforce this Section 85A immediately
