Collapsed again and again,recently 12 storey aparment in Miami,US collapsed and killed 12 body and 149 body still missing until now.Mystery and mystery only 12 storey building compare to 100 over storey of building can collapsed.From the picture,the building are super structured failed not effect the sub structured.The building can collapsed with many factor from design factor to after contruction or during occupied time.
From design factor ,the structure are not 100%collapse but part of it.If the design calculation wrong all or 100 % of the super structure were collapsed.Secondly during construction,lack of supervision of quality and not followed the spec and drawing are contribute factor of cracking and taking a time to collapsed but the strong factor are renovation after completion or during occupied.
Sometime may be ,the management of the building want to make a renovatiom to suit the customer needed and the renovation including to omit the structural element such as a column and beam without consult the engineer first.The column and beam were omit without any calculation and report or forensic engineering report before start a reno job.
The most importing thing that mainly a column cannot omit because the stability of the building are mainly depend on the location and numbers of column.If there one column are omit the building will going for unstability and later on start cracking before total collapsed.
The other factor of the collapsed are changing of the live load value or add an extra live load on the top.May be add an extra water tank or tank for fire fighting to suit the water demand which increased along a time or put a swimming pool at the top for relaxing area.The weight of water is too heavy compare to others load and not consult the engineer first before added.
Actually the guide line for the building over 10 storey and over 10 years old must submit a intergrity structural or assesment report to the authority.The report are included all the defect on the structure and recomment remedial action to reinstate the condition.The management of the building have to do a repair or remedy work and submit to the municipal for approval and record.
The most import thing to the report are location of the cracking wheather on the wall or on the structure and in the minor or major condition.If in major conditiom further test or inspectiom by specialist were recommended and the management have to do following the report from the specialist.
Actually the building wont collapsed if all the guideline are followed and the main factor also are error on the human.All the quality and report of the building are inspect by an human and also the repairing works are plan by an human and the human factor contribute to the the collapsing and from the investigation can know what is the main factor contribute to this tragedy.
