SLOPE FAILED,WHAT TO DO NEXT?

In one state in Malaysia that the budget amounted 4.5 M was approved to do a reinstate works for slope failure.The slope failure was 80 m and 100 m run.What step have to take when this failures happened

1. Road closure or lane closure that road near the failured must be closed to the vehicles.The traffic management plan have to implement.They must have a safety cone,emergency light,signboards and safety personnel to control the traffic during a day  and night time
2. failure assessment from third party include all the image of the failure including surrounding area such as all the drains,slope gradient,slope protection,erosion and what is the activity on the top besides the right of way of the road.All the data are key in in the computer to prepare a model of failure and a final report were made and proposal are submitted.
3. clear all the debris or soil using a machine and one again a traffic management plan must be implement to control a traffic.The debris will send away from the site.
4. Soil test are carry out to determine the strength of the soil.From the result,the engineer can design what type of soil protection are being used.There are many type of soil protection and depending on the soil condition.
5. concurrent at the design office,new layout of slope will come out with calculation and the most important factor is the factor of safety and position of the failure line.All the design must include the gradient,all the berm and cascade drain and a road side drain and also a slope protection method
6. new construction of the slope.The slope will construct follow the new layout and full supervision by the appointed consultant.The top -down construction method are normally used.The start point are at the top and going down until finished.After the slope completed,the construction of drains are carry out until finished.The finish part are slope protection works weather hydro-seeding or rip-rap method.If the soil condition are too weak,the soil nailing method will used .
7. after finished,all the lane are open to all traffic.

The important things to maintain the slope from failure are assessment.The periodically checking and maintenance are implemented to study the safety of the slope.The main factor of slope failure are water sippage from the top and soil erosion on the top of slope.The heavy rain will erode the top soil of the slope.If the erosion not repair or maintain ,the water can sip through into the slope and the failure line were rise up and slope failure will occur.At this stage all the erosion must be tackle first and make sure that the slope surface are protected.

So repairing work for slope failure are too costly because they involve many parties such us traffic company.third party assessment person,appointed consultant and lastly the main contractor.So that for a short of length ,the cost will be going to million but some time the slope failure cant be expect because the condition of weather are changed drastically.Thank you
