National speed limit for Malaysia are 110 km/h slower compare to UAE the higher speed limit at 160 km/h.The national speed limit are applicable to all roads in Malaysia including expressway, federal roads, state roads and municipal roads. This speed limit are enforced on Febuary 1989 and which driver drive over this limet wii be fined RM 300 minumum and also depending on the different between the speed limit and the driven speed.
For 80 to 90 km/h speed limit are for heavy vehicles on the expressway, for federal and state road are 70 to 80 km/h and for urban are 60 km/h.For school area the speed limit are 35 km/h and for season like hariraya, chinese new year and others the speed limit will lower down from 90 km/h to 80 km/h.
The proposal to upgrade or to rise up the speed limit to 130 km/h were rejected by government because if the national speed limit at 130 km/h,the drivers will drive more 30 km/h that means the speed limit are authomatic going up to the 160 km/h that is dangerous and accidents will easily happen.
One more thing if the speed limit going up until 130 km/h,our road structure or road geometry had been design basd on the 110 km/h speed. If more ,all the distance, degree, tangent, the gradient, lane wide, median wide, road shoulders wide, superelevation and curve not suit to the 130 km/h speed limit.
Let go to the road geometry. What is the road geometry and relation with the design speed limit/.What happen if the actual speed limit are over than design speed limit.
Road geometry include:
- Horizontal Alignment
- Vertical Alignment
- Sight Distance
- Cross-section
- Super elevation
- Curvature
